Welcome, summer!

Welcome back to my blog! It's been a while and I thought there's no better time than the beginning of summer for a fresh new start on the blog and at our cottage on the East Coast.

So I went shopping at Maze Home!

But before I go shopping, I always walk around the house and make a list of all the "holes" where I need a little something, a little finishing touch or softening of hard edges. That way I can focus my time, efforts and budget on the right things.

Let's take a quick tour of my results!

My old doormats were worn out and our stars doormats are fun, practical and scream summer. I used two at the cottage door (slightly wider than standard) for greater impact and a place to leave wet and sandy shoes outside.

Just inside the door, you'll find a Jonathan Charles halltree - my new hall closet as old homes rarely have them. We hang windbreakers, beach totes and shopping bags here.

On the table in entry, I used a Barbara Cosgrove X-Tray in silver with leather handles to hold three decanters. This vignette was my inspiration for our exhibit at the Chicago Flower and Garden Show this past March.

I love blue and I love hydrangeas and they look spectacular in this Vagabond House pewter centerpiece with intricately detailed dragonfly handles.

On the game table, I filled our medium size Nemo glass vase with jade shells.

Our linen fretwork pillows were a perfect pop of color and geometry nestled in front of this antique screen.

And no home is complete without live plants, and for me the simple, elegant orchid is a timeless choice. Love this blue and white cache pot.

Isn't it amazing how small changes can make such a big impact on your home? So take a walk around your house, make your list of "holes" and remember my accessorizing mantra -- more is always better!

Thanks,

Cindy
